Our Story – The Journey Behind Imvelaphi Safaris

Every meaningful journey begins with a dream.

For Imvelaphi Safaris, that dream began with a deep love for South Africa, its wildlife, and a desire to share its beauty with travellers from around the world.

Long before Imvelaphi Safaris was established, founder Jeanette Vockerodt aspired to work in the wildlife industry. Although her journey began in the corporate world, her passion for wildlife, nature, and showcasing South Africa would ultimately lead her back to her true calling.

Although her career followed a different path, her passion for nature and introducing people to extraordinary places never faded.

In 2000, after spending time in London, Jeanette returned to South Africa with a renewed appreciation for her country and a desire to share its wildlife, landscapes, and travel experiences with international visitors. It was during this period that the vision for Imvelaphi Safaris was born.

Determined to turn that vision into reality, she completed four years of part-time study while working full-time to qualify as a wildlife and tourist guide. Every qualification earned, every challenge overcome, and every lesson learned became part of the foundation upon which Imvelaphi Safaris was built.

The name Imvelaphi is a Xhosa word referring to the route or path one travels to reach a destination. The meaning perfectly reflects the journey that led to the creation of Imvelaphi Safaris and the belief that every travel experience is about more than simply reaching a destination.

By the end of 2007, Jeanette took the leap of leaving full-time employment to dedicate herself to building Imvelaphi Safaris.
